Front page news on every Toronto paper this morning:
Province-wide abuse of taxpayer money and gross neglect of health and children.
There are so many articles written by columnists already
that I don’t want to add to it. Just read for yourselves here, here or here
I just want to open a forum here for any and all of
you to discuss, vent, whatever… | | |
| The question of Quebec's identity is back in the limlight again. For those of you who are too young to remember, Quebec separatism and its struggle for "nationhood" has been an on-going saga in Canadian politics dating back to the late 60's. Now it is resurrected with the Liberal leadership race.
Justin Trudeau, the son of the late Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau said that to think of Quebec as a "nation" is too small-minded. What do you think? Do you think that speaking of a "nation" within a "nation" is an oxymoron? Some of you who do know French, what does "nation" mean in French? Does it have a different meaning from the English word? Lastly but most importantly, Does Anyone Care??? Is this even an issue for the 21st century postmodern CBC/CRC???

| "Trick or Eat" is an event organized by UofT students, it's basically
about going "trick or treating" getting food donating to the food bank. Many think that this is a super duper cool idea. However... aren't we as Christians against
Halloween celebrations? I don't actually REALLY understand why
can't we go trick or treating, or go to dress up parties. By doing these doesn't
really mean we're worshipping Satan... and I know not a lot of christians groups
are not against it. My C4C Discipleship Group is actually planning to
have a dress up party. I think I've read articles about the origins of Halloween
when I was younger, I don't quite remember everything exactly but I'm pretty
sure it's nothing about worshipping Satan in a serious manner. It just all seems
like a tradition/custom nowadays... and another "excuse" for having fun.
Would you pls explain more... or post a topic about whether this
"trick or eat" event is actually doing something for the
community, or still against Christian believes?

| What can I say? The workplace is often filled with a lot of decision making that may jeopardize our own morales. Take for instance, a friend of mine was recently asked by his boss to "twist the truth" a bit, which in my eyes is a.k.a "lying". He works for a very small company you see, and the boss is supposed to buy some sort of insurance for each of his employees based on the nature of the work that they do. My friend is going to get interviewed by the insurance people and his boss wants him to fudge the truth about his job responsibilities so that he can buy something cheaper. I don't know if I have the story totally straight but all I know is that my friend is stuck in a rut. He doesn't want to lie first off, and secondly, what if he ends up getting screwed over if something happens at work and the insurance doesn't cover him? I asked my friend to talk to his boss, but he's not sure if that would be a good idea. Not sure if this info would make a difference but his boss is also Chinese. Should he just be an obedient employee and lie as per his boss' request, or should he just defy his boss and tell the insurance people what his real job resposnbilities are so that he gets properly insured?

| Coming out of summer camp, one of the main lesson that I learn was that there are a lot out there that Christians can get involved. There is the native visitation and VBS that came to mind. And then the upcoming prayer meeting nation wide. Nursing home that is looking for volunteers to visit the elderly. There are people in need all around the city and even within our church. How does one discover all the needs out there? What is the next step. Lets put some positive action into it. | | |
